Brief Introduction

Dr. Sun Xiaoming, born in 1963, is a professor of Economic Geology in School of Earth Science and Engieering and School of Marine Sciences in Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China. He received his cooperative traning Ph.D degree of Economic Geology in Nanjing University and Melbone University in 1990. He is a judge of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Resources and Coastal Engineering, a member of the National Marine Sciences Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education. He was a sectary in Chief of International Association of Genesis of Ore Deposit (IAGOD) (2012-2016) and now an executive member of IAGOD, fellow of Society of Economic Geologists (SEG), executive member of Society of Geological Application (SGA), executive member of an executive council of Chinese Society of Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry and member of an executive council of Chinese Society of Oceanography, deputy director of Nanogeology Committee of Chinese Geological Society and an academic committee member of National Key Laboratory of Ore Genesis. He is an associate editor in chief of “Mineral Deposit”, editorial committee member of “Acta Geological Sinica”, “Geological Journal of China Universities”, “Rock and Mineral Analysis” etc., and guest-editor of Journal of Asian Earth Sciences (JAES). He conducted more than 30 research projects and published more then 200 papers in international authoritative academic journals. He awarded First Prize of Teaching Achievement Award in Guangdong Proince and First Prize of Awards of Science and Technology of Land and Resources in 2017, Second Prize of Natural Science Award of University in 2014, Pearl River Distinguished Professor of Guangdong Province in 2009, Outstanding Research Award of Youth Scientist in Guangdong Province in 1998, Silver Medal Award of Youth Geologist in China in 1995 and Outstanding Research Award of Youth Scientist in Jiangsu Province in 1992. He gave lectures of “Economic Geology” and “Marine Mineral Resources” to undergraduate students and “Isotipic Geochemistry” and “Advanced Economic Geology” to postdergraduate students. His research interests include: 1. Collisional orogeny and metallogenisis of Tibetan Plateau; 2. Submarine mineralization; 3. Nano-geochemistry and nanometer scale fluid-rock interaction; 4. Dating of hydrothermal ore deposits; 5. Fluid inclusion and noble gas isotopic indicators for ore-forming fluids.
